Overview

About this learning

What is Snoezelen?

Snoezelen is a multisensory stimulation approach that aims to provide experiences tailored to each person’s characteristics, needs and goals.

More than simply providing stimuli, it is important to understand who is in front of us, what they are looking for, how they react and how we can create a meaningful and safe experience.

In this training, you will learn about the principles that underpin this approach and discover how to move from concepts to practice.

What will you learn?

Throughout the training, you will explore:

The fundamentals of Snoezelen: Learn about the origins of Snoezelen, its principles and the foundations that guide the use of multisensory stimulation environments.

Sensory processing: Understand the basics of sensory processing and learn about the different sensory systems and their role in a person’s experience.

Materials and equipment: Learn about the main materials found in a multisensory stimulation room and understand the possibilities for using them.

Relationship and interaction: Understand why the relationship between professional and person is central to Snoezelen and how intervention should respect individual pace and responses.

Individual planning: Learn how to outline an individual Snoezelen process, considering the person’s characteristics, needs, goals and responses.

Technology as an enabler: Understand how technologies can help make everyday tasks easier and support participation and autonomy.

Snoezelen environments: Learn about different possible environments and understand how they can be used according to the intervention goals.

Different audiences: Explore the specificities of Snoezelen intervention with children and older adults, considering the characteristics and needs of each population.
